Alexis V. “Alex” Lukianov is a medical technology entrepreneur and executive whose career has centered on orthopedic and spinal surgery. His work spans company leadership, the commercialization of surgical technologies, and board service across the medical-device industry.

Alongside that career, he has maintained a commitment to Orthodox Christian community life and sacred music. In South Florida, he serves as president and church warden of Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral in Deerfield Beach, helping guide the parish’s organizational development and building initiatives.

Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral in Deerfield Beach is developing as a center of Orthodox Christian worship, education, sacred music, and cultural life. Alex helps lead its $10 million capital campaign, which includes about $6 million for the cathedral and its facilities and $4 million for clergy housing.

Alexis V. “Alex” Lukianov is a medical technology entrepreneur and executive whose career has centered on orthopedic and spinal surgery. He is best known for his tenure as chairman and chief executive officer of NuVasive. He joined the company as CEO and a director in July 1999, became chairman in February 2004, and led it through its May 2004 initial public offering until 2015, building it into a publicly traded spine-technology company.

He founded BackCare Group, a spine-focused physician practice-management company. He co-founded Fusion Robotics, which merged with Integrity Implants in July 2021 to form Accelus, and Tissue Differentiation Intelligence (TDi), a Florida medical-technology business. He also co-founded the PaTRAM Institute in 2013. He is chairman and chief executive of DuraStat, according to the company’s leadership roster.

The Patriarch Tikhon Russian-American Music Institute, widely known as PaTRAM, was co-founded in 2013 by Alex and Katya Lukianov. Alex serves as its board chairman. The institute supports Orthodox liturgical singing in English and Church Slavonic through education, training for singers and choir directors, recordings, and performances.

Yes. Alex and Katya Lukianov were executive producers on three Grammy-nominated albums, and Alex is credited as a basso profundo singer on all of PaTRAM’s recordings. They were also among the producers of the Broadway musical Memphis, winner of the 2010 Tony Award for Best Musical.

Alex is president and church warden (starosta) and a member of the parish council of Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral in Deerfield Beach, Florida, a parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. He is also vice chairman of its Capital Campaign Advisory Committee. These are lay leadership positions supporting the cathedral’s clergy, parish community, and development program.
